Peter Obi declared winner of Labour Party presidential primary

The former Anambra governor won the LP presidential primary, which took place in Asaba, Delta state, on Monday.

He was declared winner of the primary on Monday around 4:50pm.

Pat Utomi, a professor of political economy, Eragbe Anselm, national youth leader of LP, as well as Olubusola Olufolake, had earlier stepped down from the presidential race.

On Friday, the former Anambra governor joined LP, hours after announcing the resignation of his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said his decision to join LP aligns with the interest of Nigerians across different sectors, adding that he wants to take the country from consumption to production.

“Therefore, I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family,” Obi had said.

EXPOSED:The Sins of Akan Udofia

Few days ago, we told you Akan Udofia must not be Governor of our dear state because in all his life, he hasn't had an EFCC case . Today, we are going to expose many other secrets about Akan Udofia that no one may have ever told you. So for those who have been painstakingly researching for things to discredit Mr. Prosperity with, search no more; we've brought you eight (8) 'exposed' sins of Akan Udofia.

Sin Number 1:

In a career spanning over 32 years, Obong Akan Udofia has held several Executive and Non-Executive leadership positions in various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including Real Estate, Maritime, and Oil and Gas with specialty in Engineering, procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI). One man, many top positions. That's too bad.

Sin Number 2:

As a consultant, he was responsible for business development and strategic planning for the world Bank- financed Population Activities Fund Agency (PAFA). Again, a bad one.

Sin Number 3:

Going forward, he was a consultant for the setting up of the Bouygues and Stolt Offshore Consortium Amenam project for Total Nigeria valued at over 14.6 Billion Dollars. 14 Billion Dollars project entrusted to, and effectively executed by this man... How much was the budget of Akwa Ibom state for 2022? 587 billion naira. That's equivalent to 1.4billion dollars. will 1.4billion dollars be too big for a man who has effectively managed 14 billion dollars? We leave that for you to answer.

Sin Number 4:

As managing Director of Desicon Engineering Service Limited, he has successfully positioned the company as one of the most resourceful and competitive indigenous companies patronized by International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria. He took over the company from his father with 17 employees in 1996 and grew it to 5,000 employees as at 2019. Another bad achievement. Or, don't you think so?

Sin Number 5:

As an accomplished technocrat, he served as a Directer on board of Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited. He is also on the board of Desimont Nigeria Limited and Prezicon Nigeria Limited respectively and many more. Another experience exposed.

Sin Number 6:

In recognition of his numerous contributions to the development of society, he has received several awards and recognitions which include the conferment of a title by the paramount Ruler of Nsit Ibom. He was also conferred with the title of “Ubok Udom Annang” by the eighth (8th) paramount Rulers of Annang Land. Kindly follow through.

Sin Number 7:

He is the first and only recipient of the Akwa Ibom Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence conferred on him by Governor Udom Emmanuel. Do you need more information on this?

Sin Number 8:

He is also the recipient of the “pearl of the Niger Delta” award presented by the Niger Delta Achievers Merit Awards. That same Akan Udofia.

Now, after reading the eight (8) sins of Akan Udofia, the question on everybody’s mind now might be...with all these 'sinful' successes, what has he given back to the society? We'll tell you about them soon.

They are too long to be written here.

Some PDP govs ganged up against southern presidency – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

...Says North will no longer underrate South

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said some Peoples Democratic Party governors ganged up with some vested interest groups to derail the quest of southern Nigeria to produce the next president of Nigeria.

He said it was the agreement of the governors of southern Nigeria that the presidency should come to the South, and he did not betray that agreement.

Wike made the explanation at a grand reception organised by the Rivers people on Monday in Port Harcourt to welcome him back from Abuja after the PDP presidential primary.

Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, issued in Port Harcourt, described as shameful, the inability of some of those who were part of the agreement to stick to the agreement when it mattered.

The Rivers State Governor accused them of selling out and frustrating the collective efforts that would have secured the PDP presidential ticket by him for the South.

The statement read, “I contested in an election (primary) based on the principle and agreement with all southern governors and leaders of the South that presidency should go to the South this period.

“We have done our part. We never betrayed anybody because it is not in our blood to betray. But it is a shame to those people, some of the governors from the South, they are the people that were used to sabotage our course.”

Governor Wike said it was disheartening that some governors from the South, due to their inordinate ambition, could jettison the collective interest of the people they claimed to represent.

“Look at a region ganged up, then you, your region cannot gang up. You became tools to be used against the interest of your people, and you think you have won, you have lost.

“You will continue to be perpetual slaves. Rivers people, you don’t need to bother yourselves. The PDP needs us. If they say they don’t need us, they should wait,” he added.

The governor explained that he was propelled into the race to offer service and advance the interest of Nigeria, adding that in the process, he was confronted by a few individuals who wanted somebody they would control and he declined to be such a puppet.

“The winner (of the ticket) also saw it. They underrated us, but now, they will not underrate us again. We have all it takes to do whatever we want to do.

“It is a matter of you being firm, it is a matter of you being hopeful. There is nobody that is born greater than us in this country, therefore, we cannot answer second-class citizen. We can’t.

“We just used this one to tell them that enough is enough. We made them not sleep. We made them not eat. We made all of them from wherever they said they come from to know that there is somebody who can take them on.

“This country does not belong to one particular zone. If people are afraid of talking it is their business. I cannot be a second-class citizen in my country.

Presidential primary screening: APC questions Tinubu, Umahi, Bakare, others on foreign citizenship, consensus

“Some of them, their in-laws are governors in the ruling party, but they want to interfere in what happens in the PDP. Some of them, their brothers are governors in the ruling party and they want to interfere in the PDP,” he added.

Governor Wike said with the presidential primary over, and given his pledge to work for whoever emerged, Rivers State would work to deliver the PDP and all its candidates in the 2023 general election.

The governor recalled that in 2019, despite the failure of the candidate he supported to clinch the ticket, Rivers State gave PDP massive votes and refused to negotiate with the All Progressives Congress to give them 25 percent votes.

“In 2019, I was the only governor from the South-South who never negotiated with the present government. They came, I said no, I was not going to be a party to that. And that is why APC never had 25 percent in this State (Rivers).

But, in all the other States in the South-South, the president got 35 percent to 40 percent. I said I was not going to sit down with them and negotiate.”

Governor Wike said he has even told the winner of the PDP presidential primary, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, that most of those hanging around him do not have electoral value.

Governor Wike said it was wrong for the party to have allowed the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, to speak for a second time after the time allotted to each of the aspirants to address the delegates.

The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, in his remarks, described the governor as an emancipator, who had solved a particular nagging problem in Nigeria, saying that was the issue of minority question.

The Chairman, PDP Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, commended Governor Wike for his resilience and that the entire state and the Niger Delta were happy that he spoke for them.

Speaking on behalf of Rivers elders, former president, Nigerian Bar Association, Onueze Okocha (SAN), observed that Governor Wike contested the PDP presidential primary because he was motivated by his desire to serve the country and bring back the PDP to governance in Nigeria.

“You have done us proud. You’ve done Rivers State proud. You’ve done the country, the teeming masses of those who are yearning for capable leadership, you’ve done them proud. And they will continue to believe in you, they will continue to place their hope in you,” Okocha stated.

Emmanuel plans reconciliation of aggrieved PDP aspirants in Akwa Ibom

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has assured the people of the state that he would reconcile aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after the party’s primary elections.

Emmanuel said this on Sunday while speaking with newsmen at his country home, Onna, after the State House of Assembly and House of Representatives primaries.

He said though delegates to the primaries were limited to recently elected ad-hoc delegates, candidates chosen were capable of ensuring a clean sweep for the party in next year’s general elections.

According to the governor, the party remains united and strong, in spite of grievances from some members, adding that winning elections remains an act of God.

He, however, expressed confidence that all challenges confronting the party would be resolved.

“Today, I decided to obey the rules of the Electoral Act that disqualified me from being a delegate, I refused to go near the venue.

“I have come to understand that whatever comes our way, is an act of God, we cannot blame anyone.

“Akwa Ibom is PDP and PDP is Akwa Ibom, I hope to immediately set up a reconciliation committee for those of us feeling aggrieved that probably the process, today, did not favour them.

“It is an act of God and there is nothing anyone can do about it. No one in this country saw this coming.

“So, we must take it the way we have seen it, so the committee will reconcile and bring them back together,” Emmanuel said.

The governor then commended the party for the smooth conduct of the primaries.

Meanwhile, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, an aspirant from Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, said a group of aspirants in the state had decided to pull out of the primaries because of the pending court issues arising from the last ad-hoc delegates election in the state.

Inyangeyen, the former Chief of Staff to the governor, said that the exercise conducted by the PDP in the state was illegal and could not be considered a democratic exercise.

He said a group of aspirants had asked the leadership of the PDP in the state to provide a level playing ground for all aspirants, to contest and prove their popularity.

He expressed disappointment at the government for failing to provide that level playing ground, because “they were afraid to lose in a free and fair competition”.

“We approached the court and an injunction was granted against the conduct of the exercise in the state.

“I remain in my house today, I don’t mind what they are doing. I am a law-abiding citizen and whatever they are doing today, we would challenge it in court.
“We have asked our supporters to shun the primaries because it is being conducted on illegality,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Joseph Ekpeyong, the Returning officer in Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, announced Udo Friday as a candidate for the constituency, with 61 votes from 62 delegates.

Mr Michael Nsang, Returning Officer for Eket Federal Constituency announced Okpolupm Ette, who got 103 votes as the winner of the Eket Federal Constituency, while his closest rival, Mr David Lawrence had 27 votes.

Eket Federal Constituency includes Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno, and Onna Local Government Areas.

APC Primaries: Osinbajo group dares Tinubu, says VP won’t step down

Ahead of next week’s presidential convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, The Progressive Project TPP – an umbrella organization of all pro-Yemi Osinbajo support groups, has dismissed speculations that the vice president was considering stepping down for a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group noted that as the APC prepares for its presidential primaries, paid agents and loyalists of some aspirants have intensified the spread of falsehoods against the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Director of Operations at The Progressive Project TPP, Alhaji Usman Aliyu Usman noted on Sunday that “some paid agents and other supporters who feel threatened by the candidature of Professor Osinbajo seem determined for a gutter fight which Osinbajo supporters cannot join”.

Part of the statement reads; “One of our visible supporters, Professor Olusola Adeyeye, a two-term Senator who represented Osun Central Senatorial District between 2011 to 2019 made some weighty statements about the APC presidential primaries on Saturday and by Sunday, really baseless and mischievous anti-Osinbajo statements began circulating.

“Unfortunately, one of these came from Mr. Daniel Bwala, an aide to Deputy Senate President, Senator Omo-Agege who currently appears to moonlight as spokesman for the Bola Tinubu campaign.

“Specifically, without any proof, Mr. Bwala started circulating a video clip with claims that Professor Yemi Osinbajo is ‘allegedly planning to step down for Asiwaju’; Mr. Bwala had no evidence and he ought to know better than going to town with such.”

“Without doubt, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is still riding high in the race and our decision not to interfere in some camps’ deliberate spread of illusion and untruths is only motivated by our genuine confidence in our candidate’s prospects.

“As stated long ago, no group linked to TPP will join any individual or group in playing gutter politics or smearing others but we need to unequivocally state that Professor Yemi Osinbajo is not contemplating any measure of capitulation to any candidate.

“While we are sworn to total allegiance to the Constitution, patriotic values and the spirit of good sportsmanship, we denounce the misleading information and unbecoming tricks that some supporters in other presidential candidates’ camps embrace so eagerly.

“We denounce too, the baseless ad unhelpful information being randomly disseminated by the likes of Mr. Bwala.

“In the interest of the nation and its democracy, TPP appeals to all aspirants and supporters at all levels to learn from the focused and principled campaign methods of Professor Osinbajo and his supporters whose collective determination towards actualizing Nigeria’s enduring greatness is a cause that genuinely deserves the support of all patriots.

“We categorically debunk the spate of falsehoods against PYO’s candidature and we urge all Nigerian patriots to look forward to join us in the forthcoming celebrations on the day after APC presidential primaries,’ the TPP official stated.

Meanwhile, the Tinubu Support Group TSG has appealed to delegates to consider the future of the nation and elect the former Lagos governor as president.

13-year Akwa Ibom marriage dissolved over affair with pastor

Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in the Eket Local Government Area has dissolved a 13-year marriage over the allegation that the 36-year-old wife slept with a pastor of one of the new generational churches in the state.

The husband is also said to also be a pastor.

The presiding judge, Justice Pius Idiong, who dissolved the marriage, expressed worry over the rising cases of divorce and separation as a result of the activities of some churches and their pastors.

Idiong said, “It is a great pain that the church and its ministers, who are supposed to be agents and apostles of sustainability of the family, which the Catholic Pontiff, St. Pope John Paul described as ‘the domestic church’ are the precursors and catalysts of broken marriages and families today.”

The court said it was more worrisome that the said man of God was alleged to have given the pastor’s wife some substance to administer to her husband, which prompted the 42-year-old husband to approach the court to seek dissolution of the marriage.

Idiong said, “The couple can no longer live together in an era where domestic violence is at its peak, taking a dangerous trend and resulting in married couples taking the lives of each other.

“It is better for the couple to be alive apart, than for any of them to be lost on account of matrimonial disagreement.

The marriage between the petitioner and the respondent, dated November 28, 2009, and celebrated in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Uyo, under the watchful eyes of the marriage registrar, is dissolved forthwith.”

The court also gave custody of the two children of the marriage, between the ages of eight and 10, to their father, “subject to the condition that their mother shall not be denied access to her children.”

Why Buhari’s not signing Electoral Act — SOURCES

Fresh facts emerged over the weekend suggesting that barring any last-minute success for lobbying, President Muhammadu Buhari may not sign the amended Electoral Act, 2022.

Sources within the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Aso Rock Presidential Villa confirmed over the weekend that President Buhari is disturbed at the huge financial resources being deployed by politicians to woo delegates for the presidential and governorship primaries.

Fazed by the number of money politicians are throwing at potential delegates, a source inside Aso Rock disclosed that part of “President Buhari’s concern is that this type of expensive venture is capable of fueling corruption in the country.

“With the number of statutory delegates that will increase the total number of delegates in our party from about 2,400 to between 10,000 and 12,000, it means more money will be needed to induce delegates. The President considers this wasteful.

For the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, it has only 810 delegates but with statutory delegates, the number will shoot up to 3,900.”

The source explained further that “whereas some political parties have already begun their primaries, signing the amended version now will mean shifting the goal post or the rules in the middle of a game or causing the political parties to start afresh.”

Vanguard however gathered that as part of guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, political parties are expected to submit the names of their delegates to the convention at least, no later than seven days to the convention.

By that guideline, the PDP would be expected to have submitted the names of its delegates to INEC yesterday.

Based on the Electoral Act earlier signed by President Buhari, PDP is going ahead with its primaries.

If the President later signs the amended version, an INEC official who spoke to the vanguard  on condition of anonymity said “this would create a muddle.”

The PDP, yesterday, accused some APC leaders of trying to derail democracy and illegally elongate its tenure beyond May 29, 2023.

The opposition party admonished the APC to perish the thoughts of subverting the electoral process “as part of its desperation to elongate its abysmal tenure beyond May 29, 2023.”

PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, said: “The party (PDP), alerts Nigerians of the plot by the APC to use orchestrated insecurity and political uncertainty to derail the electoral process, stall the 2023 general election and create a situation to justify a tenure elongation.

There are revelations that desperate APC leaders are behind the delay by President Muhammadu Buhari in signing the amendment to the Electoral Act 2022 to frustrate the smooth conduct of primaries by political parties and derail the entire electoral process.

This attitude of Mr President to an issue that is critical to our electoral system is consistent with APC’s plot to cause confusion in the polity, orchestrate an un-conducive environment for elections, stall the 2023 general elections and achieve a rumoured third term agenda

The regularity of the electoral process as well as the confidence of the people in the certainty of timelines and outcomes of elections are the hallmarks of democracy, which the APC has been dislocating apparently with the view to undermining the electoral process.

It is clear that the APC has already commenced this ignoble plot with its desperation to use the Court to overthrow the outcome of the FCT Area Council election held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, which was overwhelmingly won by candidates of the PDP, halt the swearing-in of the newly elected Chairmen and Councilors and impose an undemocratic government in the FCT.

This is in addition to the provocative comments that have promoted disunity, agitations and restiveness in various parts of our country, including tagging a particular part of the country as a dot in a circle.

“Our party cautions the APC to note that its plans have been exposed and that Nigerians will never allow it to perpetuate its misrule through an orchestrated tenure elongation

“Nigerians are determined to vote out the APC and return our nation to the path of unity, stability and economic prosperity under the PDP. No amount of shenanigan can keep the APC in power beyond May 29, 2023.”

Efforts to get the National Publicity of the APC, Mr Felix Morka, proved abortive as calls put across to him were unanswered.

But throwing his weight behind the president’s refusal to sign the amended act, a chieftain of the APC, Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, said Buhari is right to refer to the new Electoral Act Amendment Bill for due diligence.

Olawepo-Hashim, in a statement by his media office in Abuja, said: “People have been churning out different versions of the act as if laws are primary school instructions of a village headmaster.

We must put a stop to this and do things properly and be fair to the President and don’t ridicule his office by bringing things not properly digested for him to sign. The issue is about the political interest of different factions of the political elite working in cahoot with INEC. They want to present Nigerians with a fait accompli through the ongoing primaries of the two major political parties. The President can see through this.

Etiebet assures Amaechi of Akwa Ibom delegates’ votes

(L-R) Former Governor of the Old Cross River State, Donald Etiebet, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai, President General of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Ruling Council, His Eminence Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, former Minister of Transportation and Presidential Aspirant in the All Progressives Congress, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, and Sen. Ayogu Eze, at Amaechi’s consultative meeting with the Council in Uyo, Friday night.

A former Governor old Cross River State Donald Etiebet Friday night told Nigeria’s transportation minister and a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, that delegates from Akwa Ibom State will vote for him at the party’s national convention where APC will nominate its presidential candidate.

Etiebet, who spoke on behalf of the delegates, said Akwa Ibom will deliver a hundred percent votes to Amaechi at the primary election.

“The calibre of persons in your entourage goes to prove that you are hundred per cent accepted throughout this country,” Etiebet said. “On behalf of all the delegates of Akwa Ibom State, we are going to return a hundred percent untainted votes to you. You can go home and be assured of that.”

Earlier at a meeting with the Council of Traditional Rulers of Akwa Ibom State, Amaechi assured that he will change the fortunes of Nigeria and Nigerians if he is elected President.

He gave the traditional rulers reasons why he is the best person to succeed President Buhari and urged them to convince their subjects who are delegates in the APC to vote for him in the Primary election.

“I am very qualified and very experienced, more experienced than all of them that are running (other presidential aspirants). Trust me, I have the capacity and the knowledge to overcome the challenges of insecurity. I have the capacity to understand that you cannot solve insecurity if you don’t solve economic problems, so we must address the two.

“I’m here to request that you ask your subjects that are in APC who are delegates to the Primaries on the 29th of May to please vote for me. I will change the fortunes of Nigeria, and that is an assurance I give to you. And I will be accountable to you as our leaders and accountable to Nigerians.

“When you vote for me and I become the President of Nigeria, I will meet with the National Assembly to see how we can amend the constitution to add the traditional rulers in the constitution, so that they can have the responsibility of helping us to administer the rural areas, checking insecurity and making life better for our people.”

Responding, the President General of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Ruling Council, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, said Nigeria needs a leader in the calibre of the former transportation minister.

He said, “Nigeria needs someone that knows the job, how to lead. Somebody that might have passed through mentorship, and knows the problem of this country. And I want to believe you know our challenges. I strongly believe, on behalf of the Traditional Council that you will not let us down. When you become the President of this country come 2023, please don’t forget us.”

“I know, with your capacity, you’ll be able to give us direction. Teach us how to fish, guide us to where our children will become independent. Turning around to see the personality of Lt Gen Buratai, it gives me great joy to see him here. All is not lost, because he fought gallantly against the insurgency in this country. I can see other very important people in your midst who are leading in their different spheres. I know they will advise you properly on the things to do for the betterment of Nigeria. Nigeria first, building bridges of love, unity and peace.

“We want a leader, we want a President that knows the problem of this country. And we will give you all the required support. When you call us, we’ll be there to assist you.

“This country needs a leader that is very humane, that will touch our hearts. If you lead with the fear of God, God will show you the way, and I believe strongly that you will lead with the fear of God because leadership is not child’s play. Leadership requires people that are resilient. You were Governor, Minister and the rest, but the Presidency, when you are there, I know you’ll know how to administer. I can see how agile you are, and when you get there I know you’ll be kicking even better than how you are today.

“We pray for you, we say go. May the Almighty God who knows the beginning to the end be with you, guide you aright, show you the way to go and there won’t be any pitfall. You’ll move, you’ll succeed and you’ll become the President come 2023. I have made that pronouncement, don’t take it for granted,” Etuk said.

He acknowledged Amaechi’s idea to constitutionally make the role of traditional rulers inclusive, and thanked the former Minister for his assurance, saying, “If we are included in the constitution of this country like you said, it will be well defined, how we should go. But meanwhile, we are doing what we are supposed to do, and we’ll continue to do it.”

WIDOW IN AKWA IBOM SEEKS JUSTICE FROM PRISON AFTER HUBBY'S FAMILY ALLEGEDLY FRAMED HER UP FOR KILLING THEIR SON

The Widow of Late Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak, Barr. Mrs. Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak has raised an alarm, opening up on how her husband's family mastermind by Mr. Enobong Ikoiwak framed her up after the death of her husband with an intent to embarrass her and expose her to public ridicule and hatred.

Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak, the young widow while narrating her ordeal to THE INK reporter in Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre (Prison) amidst tears in a broken heart started by placing curses on herself thus, " I do not have a hand in my Late husband's death and I have no reasons to have killed my husband, we had no quarrels, we had no fights, we even did not have any misunderstanding to have warranted me plotting his death. If I know of or be a part of anything that led to my husband's death, may God punish me, may God make me run mad". She lamented amidst pleas from our reporters and Prison authorities on her to take things easy.

The dejected and sad looking Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak whose said she suffered very humiliating treatment at Prison was clad in a sleeveless faded green polo Prison Uniform wept uncontrollably while speaking on how she got  the information on her Late Husband's demise.

Abasiesebanga Said, "My Late Husband worked in Uyo, while I work in Calabar. We only interchange visits. My husband who visited us last Christmas, left me with the kids and returned to Uyo on the 7th of January, 2022. Following his return to Uyo, my husband and I maintained cordial and effective communications over the telephone.

Few days preceding the murky day of his demise, I sent my late husband a N500 Naira recharge card after he jokingly said, you women don't always give. He received the recharge unit with appreciation and teasingly he said, “after now, you will look for a way to get the recharge card back from me”. Thus, we played over the telephone and of course, we were used to cracking jokes about every little thing. Those conversations are verifiable as they took place over our cellphones.

In the early hours of the morning breaking Thursday, 20th January, 2022, I had a call from my Husband who told me he was not feeling fine. Suspecting asthmatic attack as my late husband had asthma which are usually very fierce and threatening whenever the attack comes, I assured him that I will be heading to Uyo to attend to him at day break. From what my late husband told me, he was asthmatic from tender age, a medical history that is with the deceased’s family but which they have refused to inform members of the public about.

Speaking further, Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak said, “I had barely entered Akwa Ibom enroute Uyo, when I got a call from my husband's phone but this time, it was a strange voice who after identifying me asked me to come over to St. Lukes Hospital, Anua in Uyo, stating that my husband was there. Being so directed, I headed straight to Anua but to my greatest shock, on arrival at Anua, I found my husband already dead and lying at the Casualty Section of the hospital. I was frightened, shocked and confused beyond words. I was motionless and lose my coordination, strength failed me, not knowing what to say or do or even where to go to, I didn't know who to turn to. I managed to ask some questions as to how my husband got there and what happened to but there was no response. I searched for the man who used my husband's phone to call me, but couldn't find him again. Initially, I had thought that the caller was a Doctor as he was also the person  who led me to where the remains of my husband was when I arrived the hospital but when I managed to put myself together a bit, I asked for the man’s whereabouts but he was nowhere to be found. The entire episode was and it is still like a dream. To even make matters worse, family of my late husband decided add to my pains by lying to world that I had hands in the death of my husband”

"My husband and I have been married since 2017 and the marriage is blessed with two kids the second of which was barely six months old at the time of my husbands’ demise. I had nothing against my husband when he was alive, neither did he have anything against me. All the story you are hearing or reading on the social media portraying me as one who had trouble marriage or as one capable of or actually killing or as having masterminded the dead of my husband are cooked up lies and concoctions maliciously and desperately weaved together by family of the deceased in expression and demonstration of unjustifiable hatred for me and in order to dispossess me and my children of anything they believe their brother and son left behind”.

“In demonstration of their unremitting wickedness, they also went to my Village and arrested my aged and sick mother alleging that she also has hands in the death of my husband. As though, they have not done enough, they found ways of robing in my elder brothers alleging that they assisted me in attacking and killing my husband. Meanwhile, my brothers are very responsible and gainfully engaged men who work and live independently with their respective families outside the state. My said brothers have never lived with me or with the deceased.”

THE INK is further informed that family of the deceased has avowed to track the wife and kill her with the kids, denying that the kids do not belong to the deceased, the fact they later admitted in their scandalous publications on the social media.

Thisdeep-seated hatred and rancourous animosity appears to have been clearly expressed in their wilful exclusion of Barr. Mrs Ikoiwak name and those of her children in the biography of the deceased, thereby showing the world how much they loved Godwin, his wife and children.

According to Mrs Ikoiwak, "it is very heartless of that they then turned their attention to my innocent aged mother who loves and cherished the deceased as her own son. They raised false and denigrating allegations against my mother who herself is a poor widow, got her arrested and continued to persecute my family without a cause"

How can any right-thinking person imagine me killing my own husband and father of my children, so as to a widow and shoulder the arduous responsibility of catering for the family alone. When it was not easy with both parents, could it be easier with one? If, indeed, my husband was killed by anyone, his blood will hunt after his killers and God will bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to judgement.

Barr Mrs Ikoiwak called on the NBA, FIDA, Attorney General of the State, Akwa Ibom State Government, IGP and other relevant authorities to come to the rescue of the defenceless, who is in the hands of those who feel they have money, connections and every assernals to persecute, oppress and crush the already-traumatized innocent widow and her family and to  send them to their early graves

My late husband’s family believe that they are very rich, powerful and highly connected people with unfettered access to every tool they need to decimate me and my family and this, they are doing willfully and freely, even when they know that I am innocent of their allegationsbut my God will vindicate me and all my persecutors shall see shame.

St Luke Hospital, Anua still have not explained to me what happened to my husband, how he got into their hospital and how he case was handled and I also do not understand why the family of my late husband is making me go through so much pain and shame. I need justice for my late husband and I need justice for myself. I want to go home and take care of my two little children as they are all I have left, say Barr Mrs Ikoiwak as she broke down again with uncontrollable sobs."

THE INK understands that Barr Mrs. Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak who voluntarily went to the Police on Saturday, 2nd April 2022 to volunteer her statement following petition filed by her late husband’s family was detained the Akwa Ibom State Police Command after obtaining her statement. Following pressure from her persecutors, the Ikoiwaks, she was hurriedly arraigned in the Chief Magistrate Court, Uyo which having no jurisdiction to try the alleged offense, ordered that the accused be remanded at prison/custody and case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for further actions.

Why I Won’t Resign As Minister Before APC Primaries – Presidential Aspirant, Godswill Akpabio

Aformer governor of Akwa Ibom State and serving minister, Godswill Akpabio, has said he will not resign as the Minister of the Niger Delta despite vying for the 2023 presidential ticket, because the “law does not exist.”

Akpabio also blamed the past administrations in the country for the poor state of the economy.

Akpabio, in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said Nigeria was very poor and shouldn’t have been one but the past administrations and the COVID-19 pandemic made it worst.

The presidential aspirant also opined that Nigerians should be grateful to the Buhari led administration as people are not begging on the streets as it is the situation with other countries.

“I will only resign before the primaries if the guidelines of the party say I have to resign before the primaries but for now the law does not exist, it has been shut down by a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.

“Nigeria is not supposed to be a poor country but at the moment is a poor country as a result of a lot of factors; the economy is what it is today because of past administration and COVID-19 and Nigerians should be thankful to this administration because Nigerians are not begging in the streets as it is in other countries.” the APC chieftain said.

On the price of the forms, he said, “The N100million in my view is very fair. You see, even in modern democracies like America, it is not the candidate that sends himself into presidential elections; it is the people.

“So, when you talk about Nigeria, just 100 Nigerians bringing out N1million will give you N100million.”

“I want to think that any serious presidential candidate does not need to go into his bank account and bring out N100m because you are not the person going to vote for yourself,”

“That is provided for even in the Electoral Act that the people should also contribute in order to ensure a very fantastic campaign. So, if the people have your buy-in in your coming into power, then you should also remember that you have an obligation to deliver and to satisfy them.”

“My form was picked up yesterday in Kaduna by a coalition of northern youths who believed in my capacity. The money was contributed through fundraising by the youths over a month ago in Kaduna and over a 100million was raised.”
