Be my running mate, Kanye West asks Trump ahead of 2024 election

Barely forty-eight hours after he declared his interest to run for the president of the United States in 2024, American rapper, Kanye West asked Donald Trump, the former president of the United States to be his running mate in the 2024 election.

The music icon made this known on his Twitter page on Wednesday saying he paid a visit to the ex-President at his resort residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago.

West said he kept Trump waiting, but he disclosed the clue of the topic of their conversation.

The 45-year-old artiste went further to ask his fans to guess how the former American leader would respond to the question.

West ran a Twitter poll on the difficult question he landed on Trump as he tweeted, “First time at Mar-a-Lago. Rain and traffic. Can’t believe I kept President Trump waiting. And I had on jeans. Yikes!

“What do you guys think his response was when I asked him to be my running mate in 2024?”

Meanwhile, Trump had also launched his campaign to run and win the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Trump, who has been accused of supporting the mob invasion of the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, in protest of the victory of Joe Biden as the president, promised to make America “great and glorious again.”

13% refund: Edo received only N2.1bn—Govt

THE Edo State government, yesterday, reacted to the controversy trailing the alleged release of trillions of naira out of the arrears owing the state from the country’s 13 percent derivation formula, saying it has only received N2.1 billion out of the N28billion due to the state.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, state Commissioner for Finance, Joseph Eboigbe flanked by his Communication and Orientation counterpart, Chris Neikhare and the Special Adviser on Media Projects to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, said there was a repayment plan of the arrears to be paid in five years of four quarters in a year.

He said: “It was the Commissioners of Finance in Nigeria under the aegis of FAAC, especially those from the oil producing states that spotted the fact that there was an anomaly in respect of the Federal Government spending money from crude oil and gas sales and not taking out derivation. So, the work was done and a total of about N1trillion was established as due to the oil producing states, it went through the whole process and the FEC approved it and a methodology for repayment as approved by RMFAC and they now agreed on what would be due to each state.

“Edo State’s share of that figure was N28billion.  What was also approved was the way and manner this money would get to the states. The net amount that will come to each state over five years; each year, you will have quarterly remittance which means four releases each year over five years.

“By the time they started the releases in October, Edo State got N700million per quarter, and this is verifiable in our bank account. What we have got is three quarterly releases so far, that is what has come into the state coffers and it is verifiable, it is in the bank, Office of the Accountant General has the records. So, our share was N28billion net, it is to be distributed in five years and that will be 20 quarterly distributions three has come so far.”

On what specific projects the state has put the money to, Nehikare said the income has been part of the resources expenditure of the state, adding “Edo State has received N2.1 billion and you will agree with me that we have people who have religiously used these resources. We are not a rich state but we are rich in human capital development, we are rich in people who are able to manage our resources in such a way that we are able to get the major benefits.”

Appeal Court Orders re-run after nullifying Senate Minority Leader’s election

A Court of Appeal has nullified the election of the Senate Minority Leader, Simon Mwadkwon of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Plateau North Senatorial District.

In a judgment in Abuja on Sunday, a three-member panel of the court found, among others, that the PDP had no valid candidate in the election.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the senatorial district within 90 days.

The judgment was on the appeals by Chris Giwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gyang Zi of the Labour Party (LP).

Giwa and Zi had appealed against the judgment of the elections petitions tribunal which sat in Jos, Plateau State, affirming Mwadkwon as the winner of the senatorial election.

The appellants contended, among others, that Mwadkwon was not qualified to stand for an election because the PDP had no structure to nominate a candidate, having not complied with an earlier order by the state’s High Court for the party to conduct a proper state congress.

In the lead judgment on Sunday, Justice Elphreda Dawodu-Williams held that the earlier order by High Court was not fully complied with by the PDP as 12 Local Government Areas did not participate in the said congress.

Justice Dawodu-Williams added: “The court made total findings with regard to the issue in focus.

“To avoid anarchy, I agree with the appellants that the court must protect an order of another court.

“I agree with the appellant that the third respondent (PDP) had no valid structure and could not have claimed to have validly nominated the second respondent (Mwadkwon) for the election.

“Given the findings of this court, the appeal, therefore, succeeds as the court order was not complied with.

“The first respondent (INEC) is hereby ordered to conduct another senatorial election in Plateau North within 90 days.”
