APC Primaries: UK-Based Mental Health Practitioner Commends Gov Eno, SSG for Peaceful Exercise

A United Kingdom-based Mental Health Practitioner and Coordinator of ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative in Etoi 2 Ward 5, Akparawa Jimaimah Essien, has commended Governor Umo Eno and the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, for the peaceful and successful conduct of the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections across the state.

Akparawa Essien who is also the International Vice President 2, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, gave the commendation in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen following the completion of the party’s week-long primary exercises which climaxed with the Presidential Primary election conducted across the 369 wards of Akwa Ibom State.

The UK-based healthcare professional noted that the orderly, rancour-free and peaceful atmosphere recorded throughout the exercises marked a major departure from the tension, violence and confusion that previously characterised party primaries in the state.

According to him, the successful conduct of the elections across the 31 local government areas reflected deliberate leadership, effective coordination and the growing unity currently existing among stakeholders within the party structure under Governor Eno’s leadership.

He particularly applauded Prince Uwah, who served as Chairman of the APC Primaries Election Committee in the state, for what he described as exemplary leadership, fairness and commitment towards ensuring credibility, transparency and smooth coordination throughout the exercises.

Akparawa Essien stated that the peaceful outcome of the primaries has further strengthened public confidence in the party and demonstrated the capacity of the current leadership to manage political processes without chaos, intimidation or breakdown of order.

He added that the atmosphere of harmony and political stability presently being experienced in Akwa Ibom State has continued to attract goodwill and wider acceptance across party lines, expressing optimism that the development would further position the APC strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mental health practitioner further described the conduct of the exercises as a positive signal for democratic growth and peaceful political engagement in the state, maintaining that stability within the political space remains critical to sustainable development and public confidence.

He prayed for greater wisdom and strength for the leadership of the party while expressing confidence that the peaceful spirit witnessed during the primaries would translate into greater progress and electoral success for the APC in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

Ntenyin Etuk said Governor Eno has done exceptionally well in ensuring the realization of the international status of the airport through infrastructural upgrade, provision of basic facilities and sustainability of Ibom Air. 

He further gave kudos to the Governor for the newly completed Smart Terminal Building at Victor Attah International Airport, a facility widely regarded by aviation experts as one of the most technologically advanced airport terminals in Nigeria.

The Patriarch of the Ibibios worldwide, who spoke at the Victor Attah International Airport   after the return trip of the flight from Ghana to Uyo on Sunday, said the inauguration of international operations at the airport was a dream come true for the state. 

He paid accolades to Obong Victor Attah, who initiated the airport project; Chief Godswill Akpabio who followed up with the initiative and ensured the commencement of flight operations; Mr. Udom Emmanuel,  who advanced the development of the airport and inaugurated the state-owned Ibom Air.

The monarch noted that former governors offered impactful leadership and individually contributed their own quotas in the development of the airport.

Sen. Ibok Essien Hails VAIA as Africa’s Best, recounts foundational sacrifices during OBJ administration

 

 A former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Emmanuel Ibok Essien, FNSE, has described the newly upgraded terminal at the Victor Attah International Airport as “Africa’s best,” praising Governor Umo Eno for sustaining and completing a vision that has now positioned Akwa Ibom on the global aviation map.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the maiden international flight ceremony, Essien, a civil engineer trained at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, said the facility meets global standards and reflects deliberate planning driven by continuity in leadership. He noted that beyond aesthetics, the terminal represents technical excellence and long-term infrastructure thinking capable of supporting heavy passenger traffic and international connectivity.

The Senator who served between 1999 and 2003 recalled that the journey to securing federal approval for an airport in Akwa Ibom was not without resistance, especially at the early stages when the proposal was not favourably received at the centre.

He said during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, efforts by the state government under Arc. (Obong) Victor Attah to secure approval for the airport initially met stiff opposition, noting that he had to take the matter to the floor of the Senate to press the case for fairness and development.

“This is one project among others that I challenged former President Obasanjo to give approval when he refused same and told former Governor, Obong Victor Attah to give him the money to expand the Calabar International Airport if he has so much money and does not know what to do with it,” Essien stated.

He explained that his intervention at the National Assembly formed part of sustained advocacy that eventually paved the way for the realization of the airport project, describing the outcome as a victory for persistence and collective interest.

The former lawmaker further disclosed that the story of that struggle and the sacrifices made in the process have been captured in a forthcoming book, revealing that Obong Attah made specific reference to his role in ensuring that Akwa Ibom secured approval for the airport against all odds.

Senator Essien specifically commended Governor Eno for refusing to abandon the vision initiated by past administrations, describing the project as a clear example of how leadership continuity can translate into tangible economic gains. He assured that the airport would serve as a major catalyst for regional growth and position Akwa Ibom as a preferred destination for business and leisure in West Africa.

“What we are witnessing today goes beyond an airport upgrade. It is the opening of a strategic economic gateway for Akwa Ibom. This facility will drive revenue growth, deepen tourism, attract serious investors and create jobs across key sectors of our economy. Developments like this clearly show that Akwa Ibom is in safe hands, led by a leader who understands direction and is deliberate about the future of his people. He has also held several positions within the university, including Head of the Department of Economics, University of Uyo; Director of the International Programmes of the University of Uyo; Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, UNIUYO; Chairman of the Committee of Deans, University of Uyo; among others.

Dilapidated Edemaya Bridge: CHURCH APPEALS FOR URGENT GOVT ACTION

 

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ikot Abasi, has drawn attention to the deteriorating state of the Atan Ikpe Bridge in Edemaya Clan, urging urgent but measured government intervention to avert further hardship for residents and road users.

The concern formed part of a communiqué issued at the end of the 34th Annual Diocesan Synod of the church, held from April 23 to April 26, 2026, at Methodist Church Nigeria, Atan Ikpe.

Presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, the Right Reverend Usen S. Akpanenua, alongside the Lay President, Elder Engr Uwem Akpan, and the Synod Secretary, Very Rev Dr Uwem Ekanem, the gathering brought together clergy and laity from across the Diocese.

In the communiqué, the Synod specifically praised ongoing development efforts by the Akwa Ibom State Government as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, but noted that the condition of the Atan Ikpe Bridge has become a source of concern to the people, as it continues to affect movement, commerce and daily life in the area.

The church appealed to the state government to give attention to the bridge in order to ease transportation challenges and support economic activities within Edemaya Clan and the wider Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.

The Synod also raised concerns over the prevailing economic hardship in the country, pointing to the rising cost of food, transportation and basic services, and called on government at all levels to take practical steps to address the situation.

It further decried the poor electricity supply in Ikot Abasi despite the presence of power infrastructure in the area, urging improved distribution to boost local productivity.

On national issues, while commending the Federal Government for the ongoing reforms, the church called for peace, justice and unity, urging leaders to remain accountable and responsive to the needs of the people. It also advised political actors to embrace issue based engagement as the country approaches another election cycle.

The Synod commended the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Oliver Ali Abba, for his leadership and for setting a timely theme for the conference, while also noting the significance of the Methodist Theological Institute, Ibaka, as a step towards strengthening ministerial training.

Meanwhile, the communiqué was jointly signed by the Synod leadership, who reiterated the church’s commitment to constructive engagement and peaceful advocacy on matters affecting society.

APOSTLE UWEM ABASIODU DISBURSES N2M BURSARY, EMPOWERMENT TO UMI MEMBERS

As part of activities marking the birthday of its General Overseer, Apostle Dr Mrs Uwem Abasiodu, Uwem Ministries International (UMI) has disbursed N2 million bursary and empowerment support to members, reinforcing its commitment to education and welfare.

The latest phase of the intervention was rolled out during a Royal Birthday Fellowship held on April 23, 2026, at the ministry headquarters along Aka Obot Idim Road, Uyo.

The scheme, which began in October 2025, targets students and small scale entrepreneurs within the church, and is being implemented in phases to accommodate more beneficiaries.

In the current phase, priority was given to student members, particularly those serving in the choir. Beneficiaries include Dayeabasi Nimmong Ibanga, Utibe David Friday, Esther Idorenyin Mfon, Uwakmfon Idorenyin, Enomfon Akpan, Faith Alphonsus and Miguel Nse.

Speaking at the fellowship, Apostle Uwem Abasiodu urged members to remain patient and supportive of one another, assuring that the programme would be sustained.

“This empowerment will get to everyone who has made sacrifices in the church. Be patient and do not be envious. Your time will surely come,” she said.

The event also featured the cutting of the birthday cake, praise and worship, a special presentation by the UMI Voices, and an exhortation by Bishop Elisha Nelson.

The ministry said the bursary and empowerment scheme will continue in phases as part of its broader effort to support members and strengthen livelihoods.

The Village Head of Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, has lauded the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for the commissioning of the ultra-modern Ibom Agric Equipment Leasing facility at Ekpri Nsukara, Uyo.

Eteidung Asikpo, who spoke at the commissioning of the newly built facility on Wednesday, said Governor Eno has recorded another milestone in the state's agricultural sector development.

He noted that the project, as a strategic initiative of the administration of Pastor Umo Eno, will go a long way to accelerate mechanised agriculture and boost commercial farming, through the provision of needed equipment to farmers.

"Ibom Equipment Leasing Limited is a key component of the Agricultural Revolution mantra of the ARISE Agenda, which also embodies the Food Security Programme, farmers' grant, the Ibom Model Farm, and the Tree Crop Revolution, among other initiatives of Governor Umo Eno's administration," he enthused.

He used the occasion to appeal passionately to the Governor, whom he described as a "dedicated, hardworking, and people-centric Leader," to consider addressing some deplorable roads and erosion menace that endanger the community, especially during the rainy season.

62nd Birthday: Former Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Ibok Essien, Hails Gov Eno

 

A former Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Sen. Emmanuel Ibok Essien, FNSE has congratulated Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a people-centred leader whose administration has fostered peace and stability in the state.

In a goodwill message, Essien commended the governor’s leadership style, noting that the prevailing atmosphere of calm and unity across Akwa Ibom reflects deliberate efforts at reconciliation and inclusive governance.

He also acknowledged the governor’s support for individuals and businesses, describing his disposition as compassionate and impactful.

The Senator prayed for continued divine guidance, good health and wisdom for the governor, expressing confidence that his leadership would yield greater progress for the state.

Oku Ibom Ibibio Mourns Late King (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja

 

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR has mourned the loss of His Majesty, King (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V. 

Ntenyin Etuk described the transition of King Jaja, the revered Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom and former Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, whose remains were laid to rest on Saturday, as a significant loss.

In his tribute at the funeral service, the Patriarch of Ibibios worldwide, who led a delegation of traditional rulers from Akwa Ibom State, said the deceased was a respected leader known for his wisdom, dignity, and commitment to unity and development within and outside his domain, state, and the nation as a whole. 

He said, "Here was a friend of immense value - an enigma, an epitome of peace and a bridge builder. His Majesty, Late King (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja made distinctive marks as a traditional ruler. 

"He will surely be remembered for his contributions to Opobo Kingdom, Rivers State, and Nigeria, particularly in promoting cultural heritage and unity."

According to the Supreme Monarch, the late King Jaja was renowned for his diplomacy, humility, and progressive outlook, promoting education, youth empowerment, healthcare, and the general well-being of the Opobo Kingdom. This development earned him respect from his subjects and peers. 

He consoled the family, the Opobo Kingdom, the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council and the Rivers State Government on the demise of their beloved king, and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

His Majesty, Late King (Dr.) Dandeson Douglas Jaja, born on April 28, 1942, passed away at the age of 83 years.

The funeral service was held at the St. Paul's Anglican Church, Opobo Town, Rivers State on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

All Eyes on Capital City as ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative Inaugurates Uyo Wednesday

 

All eyes will be on Uyo on Wednesday as the ARISE with Renewed Hope Initiative formally inaugurates its 27th chapter in the state capital, marking another phase in the expansion of the movement across the State and Country.

The event, scheduled for 2pm at the Ibom Hall, Uyo is expected to draw a cross-section of political stakeholders from across the 14 wards, including socio-political groups, the traditional institution, clerics, youth and women organisations, among others.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government who doubles as the ALGON Chairman in the state, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, said the capital city is in high spirits to receive the ARISE with Renewed Hope Initiative train, led by its President General, Engr. Uwem Okoko, FNSE, alongside members of its international structure.

He noted that Uyo, as the seat of government, has witnessed significant development under the administration of Governor Umo Eno, in line with the ARISE Agenda, spanning agriculture, rural development, infrastructure expansion, security, education, healthcare and human capital development among others.

Dr Udo stated that the people of Uyo have, in appreciation of these strides, resolved to continue to support the administration beyond 2027, while also backing the Senate President in his efforts to attract more development to the state, and aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership at the centre.

He called on indigenes, residents and friends of Uyo to turn out in large numbers, describing the event as one of the most anticipated chapter inaugurations of the initiative so far.

Revisit Udom Emmanuel’s Industrial Drive to Tackle Poverty, Boost Productivity — Engr Coffie Advises

 

The 2023 ACCORD governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Engr. (Dr) Emem Coffie, has called for a deliberate return to the industrialisation roadmap by the immediate-past government and other previous administrations in the State, urging that it be strengthened through corporate participation, private investment and well-structured public-private partnerships.

The CEO of several companies, a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of many professional bodies locally and internationally, noted that the pathway to sustainable economic growth in the state lies in consolidating existing industrial assets rather than abandoning them and developing new ones, stressing that such a move would directly impact productivity and reduce poverty.

This was contained in the Easter message endorsed by Engr Coffie and made available to newsmen, where he urged citizens to set aside differences and promote peaceful coexistence, stressing that the season demands reflection on the values of sacrifice, compassion and collective progress.

He noted that the industrial drive is a solution to creating jobs, stimulating local production and reducing overdependence on federal allocation, adding that the focus now should be on scaling operations and ensuring long-term viability through broader stakeholder involvement.

According to him, “The efforts of previous administrations in establishing industries should be revisited, reviewed and strengthened through corporate participation, individual investment and public-private partnerships, while the establishment of more cottage industries by the State Government and the creation of an enabling environment for private investors in the state is a sine qua non to resolving the unemployment crisis in the state. 

This, he said, is a practical route to improving economic productivity and addressing poverty in the state.

Coffie maintained that industrial growth must be supported by policies that protect local livelihoods while opening space for innovation and expansion, warning that neglecting existing structures would amount to wasting years of strategic investment.

He also emphasised that economic development must go beyond infrastructure to include human capital development, insisting that empowering citizens with relevant skills remains critical to sustaining any industrial ecosystem.

On the Easter celebration, Coffie urged Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians to embrace love, unity and faith, noting that the season calls for sober reflection and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence.

“Easter reminds us of sacrifice and love. We must remain united and allow our faith to guide our actions, while also committing ourselves to building a better society through hard work and shared responsibility,” he said, praying for peace, progress and a renewed sense of purpose among citizens.

Barely 16 days after empowering a constituent with a vehicle, the Member representing Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo has again demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development with the presentation of another Toyota Camry car to Comrade Okon Joseph Akpan.

The latest gesture, which took place at the lawmaker’s residence in Uyo, has confirmed what many sons and daughters of Uyo have said about their member, popularly known as CAPO, as one who rewards loyalty and uplifts supporters within the constituency.

Presenting the vehicle today alongside his wife, Mrs Idy Uwem, CAPO described the beneficiary, also known as Caratex and Youth Leader of the PDP in Uyo, as a dedicated grassroots mobiliser whose support for Governor Umo Eno has remained consistent over the years.

He noted that the beneficiary’s loyalty transcends party lines, adding that he has shown exemplary support and respect for the leadership in Uyo under Prince Enobong Uwah.

The lawmaker, while fielding questions from newsmen, commended Governor Eno for providing the enabling environment that allows elected representatives to impact meaningfully on their constituents, saying such support has made it possible for lawmakers to respond directly to the needs of the people.

He expressed appreciation to the people of Uyo for their sustained support and loyalty to the political leadership in the area, assuring that the prevailing unity would translate into overwhelming support for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

CAPO maintained that Uyo is well positioned to deliver 100% votes for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno and other candidates of the party, given the level of political cohesion currently in place under Prince Enobong Uwah

Aniekan Bassey: SERVING UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT A TRUE ‘ATAMA’ REPRESENTATION

Last Saturday, my wife asked what she should prepare for the family. We had exhausted the usual options. I mentioned Afang or Atama. Within seconds, she was already reading out untold health benefits of Atama soup, starting from the richness of the palm fruit, the potency of the leaves, and everything that makes it stand out.

At that same moment, I was reading a news report on the endorsement of Senator Aniekan Bassey, Ph.D by the Uyo is Ripe organisation. As she reeled out those benefits, something clicked, I said to myself, so, my Senator is giving us an Atama representation in Uyo Senatorial District. Allow me explain.

Aniekan Bassey arrived in the 10th Senate after serving as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. For many of us who followed his trajectory, his emergence at the National Assembly came with clear expectations. With his impressive record at the state level, it was easy to project that he would stand out. 

Two and a half years down the line, that expectation has not only come true, it has gone far beyond what people imagined. And, his scorecard, much like the benefits of Atama soup, is rich and thick.

On his primary duty, which is LAWMAKING, the Uruan-born politician has sponsored more than eight bills. These include the Price Control Amendment Bill, a bill seeking the establishment of a National Centre for Renewable Energy Research in Uruan, and another aimed at establishing a Federal College of Fishery and Aquatic Studies within the district. He has also moved over six key motions, including interventions on the Calabar–Itu–Ikot Ekpene Road and the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity around Efiat.

However, we understand some people in this part of the world. Dem no wan hear those bills and motions talk. What they want to see is direct impact.

On that note, here we go; In education, Senator Bassey has delivered modern school equipment and ICT centres valued at ₦222 million across 11 schools, cutting across all local government areas in the district, from Salvation Army Primary School in Etinan to Migrant Secondary School in Nsit Atai. Over 4,000 students have had their UTME registration fees paid between 2024 and 2026. More than 100 students are currently on scholarship under the RHABYESS Foundation. Some youths have even travelled to China on fully funded capacity-building programmes. In addition, classroom blocks of three units each are under construction across the district, with work already ongoing at Methodist College, Afaha Atai.

In healthcare, interventions have been equally direct. Free medical and surgical outreaches have been conducted in five major hospitals, including Methodist General Hospital Ituk Mbang, General Hospital Etinan, and St. Theresa Hospital Use-Abat. Essential drugs and consumables have been supplied to 24 health centres across the district. Twenty-four, not a hear say, but a verifiable spread across communities.

On empowerment, take a look; over 12 vehicles have been given to constituents. ₦50 million was disbursed to 110 agro-business beneficiaries. ₦100 million went to 500 youths trained in leadership and policy. ₦50 million supported 500 women and youths in agro-processing. ₦80 million was released to 200 petty traders. ₦200 million worth of fertilizers was distributed to over 500 farmers and 16 cooperatives.

Another ₦200 million went into oil palm development, alongside seedlings. ₦50 million was disbursed to 250 youths trained under the Supernumerary Police scheme. By any fair assessment, that is over 2,500 direct financial beneficiaries, excluding scholarships, UTME support, and other interventions.

Employment facilitation has also cut across key institutions, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, Nigerian Television Authority, Nigerian Quarantine Service, Border Communities Development Agency, and the National Assembly Commission, among others.

Infrastructure is not left out. Over Thirty-one communities now benefit from solar street lighting. Solar-powered boreholes have been installed in several communities across the District. Many road projects he facilitated are either completed or ongoing, including the 17km Nung Udoe–Adadia Road under the World Bank and African Development Bank-supported RAAMP initiative, alongside other key link roads across the Senatorial district.

So, just like you would hear good testimonies after tasting a deliciously rich Atama soup, the people of Uyo Senatorial District are not shutting their mouths.

Across the nine LGAs, the response has been massive. One of the clearest examples came a few days ago during the inauguration of Uyo is Ripe, a socio-political movement coordinated by a media professional, Elder Ndanti Ekuh, who, like over 100 other groups in the district, has unanimously endorsed this good chef for another sumptuous meal.

And anyone who has ever tasted Atama knows this truth, the soup, though delicious, hardly thickens on the first day. Atama becomes far more delicious when you give it more time. That is when the ingredients fully settle and the flavour deepens. What was already delicious becomes difficult to walk away from.

That is exactly the sentiment from Uyo to Ibesikpo Asutan, Uruan, Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium, Nsit Atai, and Etinan. The people want the effective representation of Senator Bassey to continue. Let the gains consolidate. Let the representation mature fully.

Now, with Governor Umo Eno driving unprecedented development in the state through the ARISE Agenda, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pushing national reforms, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio providing strategic leadership at the centre, Senator Aniekan Bassey, Ph.D, already fits into a structure that is working.

Therefore, we unanimously say: this Atama is deliciously rich on the first day. Please, let us leave it in the pot to give us the RANKING taste.

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President-General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk, CFR, has charged members of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) to work assiduously in taking the varsity to greater heights of academic excellence and societal development.

Ntenyin Etuk, who is the Chancellor of AKSU, stated this when he hosted members of the 4th Governing Council, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Distinguished Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, CON and the University's management team led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi E. Akpan to a luncheon in his palace recently.

The Chancellor noted that their recent appointments by the State government was an expression of faith in their "capacities to serve the interests of the university effectively, and to take the university to greater heights."

Describing their appointments as "a call to responsibility", he said members of the governing council have to rise to the occasion to meet expectations, adding, "We have to foster a cohesive team environment to drive the university's growth through quality leadership, innovation and adaptability, and to ensure accountability and transparency in all that we do."

"We must collaborate with stakeholders to actualise the vision and mission of the institution. We must also build on the university's strengths and address challenges proactively, ensuring that Akwa Ibom State University becomes a hub for academic excellence and societal development."

The Supreme monarch reiterated his profound gratitude to the Visitor to the University, the State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, for his kindness in reappointing him as the Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University. 

He also congratulated the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, CON, on his well-deserved reappointment, and Professor Otoabasi E. Akpan on his appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor. In the same vein, he rejoiced with all members of the Governing Council on their appointments. 

Ntenyin Etuk used the occasion to "acknowledge and commend the efforts of the Visitor to the University, Governor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, in supporting the university's growth, achievements and general development."

He also called on donor agencies, development partners, well-meaning individuals, socio-cultural groups, the institution's alumni and indigenes of Akwa Ibom State, both at home and in the Diaspora, to contribute to the growth of AKSU. 

"On our part, we are ever ready to effectively utilise investments made to ensure that AKSU is truly a citadel of knowledge," he added.

Former Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government, Rt. Hon. (Obongemem) Imeh Paul Afia, has said Akwa Ibom is on the threshold of a major economic leap, citing the imminent takeoff of international flights at the Victor Attah International Airport and ongoing efforts to attract investors to the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

Afia spoke Friday at the Victor Attah International Airport while exchanging views with newsmen shortly after Governor Umo Eno returned from an official trip to the United Kingdom, where the State Chief Executive joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in engagements aimed at drawing investment interest into key projects in the state.

According to Afia, the convergence of aviation expansion and seaport development by Governor Eno signals a deliberate and well-coordinated economic strategy by the present administration.

His words: “With the airport going international soon and efforts to bring in investors for the deep seaport, Akwa Ibom is being positioned for serious economic expansion. This is the kind of leadership that deserves support."

He noted that the planned commencement of international flight operations would open up the state to global traffic, ease the movement of investors and goods, and significantly boost tourism, commerce and service industries.

Obongemem Afia added that the development would have a direct impact on the state’s Gross Domestic Product, increase internally generated revenue and stimulate job creation across multiple sectors.

“The moment you activate international routes, you change the economic equation. You attract business, you expand hospitality, you deepen trade and you create new value chains. That is what is about to happen here,” he stated.

The former Etim Ekpo council boss commended Governor Eno for what he described as a clear economic vision, stressing that the ongoing transformation of the airport into a full international hub is not just about infrastructure, but about long-term value creation.

He said the Governor’s move to complement the airport with renewed push for the Ibom Deep Seaport places Akwa Ibom in a strategic position within the Country and across the Gulf of Guinea corridor.

According to him, no state in the South South currently combines both an emerging international aviation hub and a deep seaport vision at this scale, noting that such alignment would naturally attract foreign direct investment.

Afia further observed that Governor Eno’s engagement with international partners with President Tinubu signals seriousness of purpose, adding that investors are more inclined to commit where leadership demonstrates clarity and consistency.

He urged stakeholders and residents of the state to rally support for the administration, maintaining that continuity of such policies would consolidate the gains already recorded.

The former council boss used the opportunity to commend the entire leaders of Etim Ekpo, for rallying the people in unity and strengthening grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno.

The beneficiary, Comrade Daniel Dominic Okon from Eniong Offot Village in Offot Clan, is said to have stood firmly with the lawmaker for over eight years, mobilising support for the party and its leaders across Uyo Local Government Area.

In the same vein, Mr Sabbath Inyang Udoh and Mr Anthony Charles Akpan received Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira each as Business Support.

Enough of your Fabricated Ranting: Blessing Ossom Must Stop Exploiting Akwa Ibom Leaders for Desperate Self-Promotion

The attention of the Uyo Senatorial District Peoples' Initiative (Youth Wing) has been drawn to a recent Facebook live video by one Blessing Ossom from Nsit Atai, wherein she made reckless and unsubstantiated claims against the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.

Ordinarily, we would have ignored what clearly amounts to social media ranting. However, when an individual begins to drag the name of a dedicated public servant into imaginary conversations in a bid to whip up sentiment and manufacture crisis where none exists, silence becomes irresponsible.

We state clearly as follows:

1. The claims attributed to Prince Enobong Uwah regarding alterations to party structure, reduction of names, or manipulation of APC leadership in Uyo Federal Constituency are entirely fictitious. No such conversation, directive, or instruction exists to our knowledge.

2. It is mischievous and dangerous to randomly mention the Governor and the SSG in a manner calculated to suggest division within the APC or a breakdown of trust between the Governor and the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio. Such insinuations are false and deliberately provocative.

3. Prince Enobong Uwah remains focused on his statutory responsibilities, which is, translating the Governor’s ARISE Agenda into practical results for the people of Akwa Ibom State. 

4. He is not involved in petty factional politics nor in the sponsorship of disunity within any federal constituency.

5. The attempt to paint the SSG as selfish, divisive, or disloyal is a tired and desperate strategy. It is unfortunate that personal ambition or the quest for political relevance would drive anyone to deploy blackmail and psychological manipulation as tools. We caution Blessing Ossom to immediately desist from this pattern of conduct. Manufacturing imaginary conversations and invoking the names of respected leaders to create controversy is not activism; it is satanic behaviour.

6. Akwa Ibom State has moved beyond the era of bitterness and unnecessary political drama. The Governor, members of his cabinet and stakeholders are working in synergy with His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D and Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, to strengthen the party and ensure the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while consolidating gains that position Senator Akpabio favourably for remain his position as the President of the Senate.

7. The peace and unity currently enjoyed within the party and across the 31 LGAs must not be undermined by attention-seeking theatrics. If Blessing Ossom has any grievance, there are established party channels to address concerns. Social media sensationalism is not one of them.

8. We therefore advise her, in her own interest, to stop dragging the name of Prince Enobong Uwah or any other leader into ill-conceived narratives. Prince Uwah should be allowed to concentrate on delivering on the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno without distraction.

9. Any further attempt to blackmail or malign any dedicated public servant in pursuit of personal relevance will not be condoned. Those engaging in such conduct are advised to desist immediately in the interest of peace, unity, and responsible political engagement.

Avoid Being Used as Instruments of Political Distraction, Youth Leader Advises Etim Ekpo Youths

Former State Youth Leader II of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Comrade Usenmfon Uduak Ibanga, has advised youths in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area to resist attempts to drag them into political distractions by individuals who do not mean well for the area, insisting that political relevance is built on genuine achievements, not media noise.

Ibanga, now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), gave the advice during an enlarged meeting of Etim Ekpo youths. He said the gathering became necessary to remind young people that, as leaders of tomorrow, they must shun acts capable of portraying them as insolent and instead channel their strength and energy toward meaningful developmental pursuits.

He cautioned that allowing youths to be used for divisive political ends could undermine the unity Governor Umo Eno has fostered across the state, as well as weaken the collective resolve to stand firmly in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno.

Speaking on recent narratives questioning the political relevance of Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, Ibanga described the former Senior Law Lecturer as too seasoned and refined to engage in political brick-throwing.

According to the former Chapter Secretary of the Akwa Ibom Youth Caucus and former Dakkada Ambassador, leadership credibility cannot be reduced to social media ranting or sponsored publications, but must be anchored on verifiable service, established structure, and long-standing contributions to society.

The former State Auditor II and member, Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Akwa Ibom State chapter, further described the Senior Advocate of Nigeria as a refined statesman whose pedigree in law, governance, and party administration places him above partisan mudslinging.

Tracing Enoidem’s public service record, Ibanga noted that the legal luminary first served as Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government at a relatively young age, later became State Treasurer of the PDP, Commissioner in key ministries, and subsequently National Legal Adviser of the party, where he handled critical legal matters across the country.

He added that Enoidem’s elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) further attests to his professional depth and intellectual standing.

Beyond public office, Ibanga highlighted what he described as Enoidem’s enduring grassroots footprint, including the construction of a world-class hospital with state-of-the-art facilities serving multiple local government areas, provision of scholarships to both indigenous and non-indigenous students across the state, sustained support for youths who now occupy prominent positions in politics, law, and other fields, as well as empowerment initiatives for entrepreneurs, including vehicle donations. He noted that such empowerment efforts continue to date and argued that a leader with such a track record deserves respect.

On the SAN’s recent political alignment, Ibanga said the decision was driven by enlightened state interest and the need for unity rather than personal ambition.

He assured that Enoidem remains undistracted and committed to mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno, stressing that the current political climate calls for consolidation, not division.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals with little to show in terms of tangible achievements are attempting to disrupt the peace established by His Excellency the Governor and the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio,” Ibanga said. “As youths, we must resist any attempt, regardless of who is involved, to use us to insult, demean, or attack respected elders. This is not the time to fuel political tension. It is a time for unity, stability, and strategic support for leaders driving development at both the state and national levels.”

He therefore, urged youths in Etim Ekpo to remain focused, refuse manipulation by detractors, and align themselves with mature and responsible political engagement in the interest of the area and the state at large.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. James Iniama, has described the ongoing statewide Women Sensitization Tour on Civic Responsibilities as a timely and commendable initiative by the state government and the ruling party, the APC.

Mr. Iniama made the remark on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen at Mbak Itam, Itu Local Government Secretariat, on the sidelines of the recently concluded Women Sensitization Tour in the area. The event was led by the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, alongside the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki and other top government officials.

The APC chieftain, an estate surveyor and valuer who hails from Itu Local Government Area, noted that the sensitization exercise was a strategic move to properly enlighten women on their civic responsibilities ahead of the forthcoming elections. He stressed that the initiative would significantly reduce voter apathy and enhance women’s participation in the democratic process.

He noted that grassroots-focused tour would empower women with the necessary information about their civic rights and responsibilities, thereby ensuring greater political awareness and engagement. “There will be no excuses of voter apathy. They won’t say they were unable to vote. I must commend the women for the massive turnout. APC is taking the right step at the right time to sensitize voters,” he said.

Mr. Iniama, a former governorship candidate under the defunct Action Congress (AC), also delivered a goodwill message during the programme held at the council headquarters, where he lauded the initiative and pledged his full support towards the success of the exercise in Itu Local Government Area.

The Women Sensitization Programme with the theme “Women ARISE,” focused on key areas including voter registration, party e-registration, National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment, and cooperative development. These were highlighted as critical pillars for enhanced political participation, grassroots mobilisation, and inclusive growth across the state.

The political heavyweight assured that the people of Itu Local Government Area, whom he described as politically conscious and consistently proactive in civic engagement, would once again take the lead in the 2027 general elections by re-electing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress. 

He maintained that Itu people have always been number one in political participation and would demonstrate that strength at the polls through massive support for the APC.
