As the world observed International Education Day on January 24, 2024, the Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, has commended His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, for his significant investment in the state's education sector.
Speaking to reporters, Commissioner Etiebet highlighted Governor Umo Eno's achievements in the past eight months, including the remodeling of key primary schools in Uyo and Eket.
She stated, "His Excellency the Governor has given priority attention to Education in line with the ARISE agenda, and the fruits of his massive investment in just eight months are enormous. Akwa Ibom people feel proud to celebrate these tangible strides."
She listed accomplishments such as the remodeling of Ewet Model Primary School, Uyo, while the remodeling of Primary Schools in other Federal Constituencies is in progress.
Others include the procurement of educational materials for pupils in Public Primary Schools in the State, the launch of a N100 million Education Trust Fund for students with disabilities in tertiary institutions, payment of bursaries to students in tertiary institutions, the continuation of free and compulsory education, as well as upcoming initiatives like educational items for pupils in public primary schools and The Akwa Ibom-United Kingdom Education Exchange Programme, among others.
Etiebet used the occasion to urge our pupils and students to strive for excellence in both learning and character, embodying the spirit of Akwa Ibom children known globally.
Meanwhile, International Education Day, celebrated worldwide, carried the theme "Learning for Lasting Peace."
According to the Education Commissioner, Akwa Ibom's commitment to education aligns with this global emphasis on fostering enduring peace through learning.
