Former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, has applauded Governor Umo Eno on his conferment with the Award of Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment, presented on Sunday at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The award was handed over by President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Speaking with reporters after the ceremony, Senator Ibok Essien described the recognition as “a firm validation of Governor Eno’s steady and people-centric leadership,” noting that the administration’s deliberate focus on community empowerment, rural development and project continuity has placed Akwa Ibom in a favourable national spotlight.
The ranking Senator of Akwa Ibom State extraction said the honour was well-deserved, stressing that the Governor’s approach to governance has been marked by prudence, discipline, and clear policy direction. He added that the award should further encourage stakeholders and citizens to close ranks around the administration’s programmes.
Last night's event drew a strong delegation from Akwa Ibom, including Senators Ekong Sampson, Aniekan Bassey, Effiong Bob, and Senator Ibok Essien; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Chief Assam Assam, SAN; APC State Chairman, Stephen Ntukekpo; Dr Patrick Umoh; Engr. Uwem Okoko; Elder Obareki; and Commissioners for Works, Information, and Women Affairs.
Ibok Essien however, noted that this latest recognition comes on the heels of several national and international honours recently received by the Governor from the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Leadership Group, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NISMA, Security Watch Africa Initiative, the Nigeria Police Force, and the African Governor of the Year award for Infrastructure Development in London.
He said the series of commendations indicate that Akwa Ibom’s development pattern under Governor Eno has gained broad institutional approval. He urged the people to sustain their support, saying the State stands to benefit more as the administration consolidates its reforms.
“This is another positive moment for Akwa Ibom. The Governor is doing his part with clarity and commitment. What is required now is collective support to advance the gains already recorded,” he said.
